Following right behind the Maryland Terps, the Scarlet Knights have announced their decision to join the BIG 10 Conference. Athletic Director Tim Pernetti says its about stability. Of course exposure for their other sports programs and financial benefits are certainly factors in the decision. Rutgers leaves the Big East since joining the conference in 1991.
Their move follows Maryland’s announcement that they will be joining the Big Ten. The Big East requires 27 months notice therefore the Scarlet Knights will have to negotiate to leave early. Both Maryland and Rutgers will join in 2014.
The Iowa State Cyclones and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights meet each other at the New Era Pinstripe Bowl in Bronx, NY at 3:20pm ET. Unlike Iowa State, Rutgers’ opponents rarely broke the Top 25 rankings. The Scarlet Knights only faced one ranked team losing then to #25 West Virginia. The Cyclones ended their season with a stunning upset over Oklahoma State. Whoa! What a nice way to end the season but will the rush of adrenaline linger long enough to carry over for another victory? Better keep your eyes peeled for Jawan Jamison and stand out receiver Mohamed Sanu.
